Speaker: Dr. Varun Sivaram, Fellow for Science and Technology, Council on Foreign Relations
Solar energy has become the cheapest and fastest-growing power source on earth. However, in order for it to achieve its full potential, Dr. Sivaram argues in his new book that several kinds of innovation are required: Financial innovation and new business models to facilitate the spread of off-grid applications; Technology innovation to replace today’s solar panels with coatings as cheap as paint;Systemic innovation to allow more flexible power grids to handle intermittent solar power.
All of this will require visionary public policy.
Note: Books will be available for purchase after the talk.
