Sustainable Finance in Emerging Markets – the Sustainable Banking Network Global Progress Report with Ms. Honglin Li, Esq.
Driven by the increasing risks and opportunities imposed by climate change, technology innovation, and consumer awareness, the financial sector plays a growing role in promoting sustainable development globally. Many emerging market regulators and industry associations are establishing and implementing national policies, principles, and guidelines to lead or further this evolution. The talk features the Sustainable Banking Network (SBN), a voluntary community of financial sector regulatory agencies and banking associations from emerging markets committed to advancing sustainable finance in line with international good practice. Its 38-member countries represent US$43 trillion (85 percent) of the total banking assets in emerging markets. The SBN Second Global Progress Report, to be released in the fall of 2019, provides a comprehensive review of advances in sustainable finance across emerging markets, as well as case studies from SBN member countries and their financial institutions.
