Thabit Jacob is a research fellow at Roskilde University. His research is broadly on the political economy of development, with a focus on politics of energy and resource extraction in era of resurgence resource nationalism. His Current work focuses on renewed interest of African states in the extractive and energy sectors, concentrating on growing influence of state-owned enterprises in the energy and mineral sectors particularly coal and oil and gas, resource and energy nationalism in Sub-Saharan Africa and politics of energy access and transition.
His research has been published in journals such as African Affairs, The Extractive Industries and Society, Energy Research & Social Science, Resources Policy, Land Use Policy and African Review. His research has also been covered in media outlets, including the BBC (English and Swahili services), National Public Radio, The Guardian, Bloomberg, The Citizen, and The Africa Report among others.
As ISEP, Thabit seeks to contribute on topics related to political economy of energy and issues around energy security, access and transition in Sub-Saharan African with particular focus on East Africa.
