Ryan Kennedy

Ryan Kennedy is the Associate Director for data analytics for the Initiative for Sustainable Energy Policy (ISEP). His work for the initiative covers a wide range of areas, including the use of satellite data and crowdsourcing for monitoring access and reliability to energy, the use of big data from sensors to understand energy demand, patterns of air pollution and their political implications, and the use of experiments for policy evaluation. He is also interested in how governance practices and public deliberation can improve energy and environmental policies.

Ryan is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Houston (UH) and director of the Machine-Assisted Human Decision-making (MAHD) Lab. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from The Ohio State University in 2008. His previous work has dealt with issues of energy access, sustainability, technology, and governance. His work has been published in Science, the American Political Science Review, Energy, and Energy Policy, among others.
