ISEP and SPI Finish a Large-Scale Survey to Understand the Indian Rural Electricity Customer
In collaboration with Smart Power India, ISEP has finished collecting data for the study of technology adoption, power consumption, and customer attitudes towards mini-grid and grid electricity in rural India. The survey contains information about 10,000 households and 2,000 enterprises spread across 200 villages of Bihar, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
“This study is first of its kind in India, where we are trying to estimate actual rural electricity consumption.” says Johannes Urpelainen, the Founding Director of ISEP. “The data can help us understand the drivers of electricity demand and identify effective mechanisms to provide meaningful electricity access, going beyond electricity connections.”
The data were collected by Morsel Research & Development, a Lucknow-based survey company. The study is supported by Smart Power India, an organization established by the Rockefeller Foundation. under the Smart Power for Rural Development(SPRD) program.
